The Nokian Hakkapeliitta 8 tire with studs is the newest Nokian winter tire with excellent traction for the broad range of snow, ice and bare road conditions. The Nokian Hakkapeliitta 8 has a new rubber formulation and center rib reinforcement compared to the 7 series, which makes this a good tire choice for anyone that lives in a climate with unpredictable winter weather and needs the very safest tire available.
In addition to the studs (which are installed at the Nokian factory), there are tread features like open grooves for snow traction, plenty of sipes for biting edges on ice, and a pliable tread rubber that stays soft on extremely cold dry roads. The latest generation Nokian Hakkapeliitta 8 with studs will impress you with remarkable handling on wet and dry roads, and performance tire feel on dry cold winter roads. It is a safe tire in all conditions, and a great winter tire option for a large range of sedans, coupes and economy cars that operate in harsh winter climates, particularly climates with deep snow, or unplowed country roads. This is when the benefits of a studded tire are most observed.
The Hakkapeliitta 8 series leads in many Consumer Reports winter tire performance categories, and is absolutely the latest and greatest winter tire from the leader in premium winter tires.

good traction on ice
As far as I know, the best snow tires one can get for for highway use. Because of the dedicated high performance winter (snow) tread pattern and aluminum clad carbide studs these tires are loud, but have amazing traction on ice--like a cat on a carpet. I called tire centers in northern states, including Fairbanks Alaska. These are what they sell a LOT of. The rubber compound behaves normally at higher temperatures while remaining pliable at very low temps. One can find videos of these on YouTube.
