Founded in 1920 by Ira J. Cooper, the Cooper Corporation grew to become the Cooper Tire & Rubber Company in 1946, through numerous mergers, acquisitions, and expanding sales. In 1960 Cooper became a publicly traded company, and over the next several decades, they expanded their product offerings, as well as manufacturing and distribution capabilities, and succeeded in reaching Fortune 500 status by 1983.
